Why Do People Go to School Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

For what reason Do People Go to School - Essay Example That is actually why individuals send their kids to class. They need to see them prevail as legal advisors, specialists, craftsmen, designers and all the occupations that pay well. In any case, I don’t concur with Paul when he says that when kids go to class wearing outfits, they look like as though they are being drafted into something. In a specific way in the school profession, kids need to get familiar with the rudiments, that is vital. Nobody is squeezing and trim kids into robots by sending them to schools. There is a motivation behind why there is a more prominent number of fruitful individuals who went to class than the individuals who didn’t. While at school, kids don’t just dig into their books, there is an entire bundle of school training. For example, the extra-curricular exercises are not straightforwardly related with work chasing at the same time, they are vital for generally speaking preparing and improvement of body and psyche, which is something individuals get as a side dish when they get a school training. At the point when an individual goes to class, he meets new individuals, makes new companions, manages them in residences. School instruction shows understudies how to comply with time constraints on their assignments and shuffle colossal outstanding burdens of different subjects. That is the reason when a business enlists an individual who has gone to class realizes that that individual is acceptable at time the board and performing various tasks. Paul Murray most likely has a similar thought regarding training and learning as John Holt. Unschooling is a term authored by John Holt in alluding to custom learning. This kind of learning has a reason not for the schools or school administrators however for the understudies who are learning those things. There is no forcing of any sort on the kid. On the off chance that he is keen on speedsters, his advantage may lead him to become familiar with the mechanics of a motor or in any event, assembling a total automobile.â Considering a theoretical circumstance, had Rex Walls had sent his youngsters to standard schools, he would be needed to find a nice normal line of work like every other person and his kids would not need to take lunch from different classmates and root refuse jars for food. In any case, showing Unschooling, what Rex and her better half showed their youngsters writing, workmanship, music, history, space science, geography, and arithmetic added so much helpful inform ation to their children’s adapting however character preparing was totally missing from. What's more, that is the reason such a smart and educated family needed to live their lives like wanderers. I don’t can't help contradicting Paul Murray and John Holt on the essential thought regarding training and where it counts inside, nobody needs to go to class as it is difficult work. In any case, I need increasingly down to earth answers for their concept of not going to class or Unschooling. Dillydallying around, sitting idle, watching films, playing in the parks and rest when tired, seems like a fantasy life yet envision on the off chance that everybody begins doing this, at that point there would be no more specialists and architects to run a TV station. There would be no columnists and authors to play fascinating news on TV and distribute intriguing books and magazines. Like food and water, information or training is the essential need of an effective life and school ins truction is one safe approach to accomplish that.

Australian Tax And Transfer System

Question: Talk about theAustralian Tax And Transfer System. Answer: Presentation: There is Federal Government in Australia. Henceforth, all issues identified with assessments and moves are taken care of by various degrees of the administration. All the national, state and neighborhood levels of the administration are connected with one another and considered as a solitary expense move framework that has a few segments. An Australian resident needs to contact with the Australian expense move framework, the state charge move framework and furthermore the one at the neighborhood level to complete his work. Likewise, any business in Australia needs to connect with the legislature at numerous degrees of the various states and nearby governments, alongside the national duty move framework. It has been seen that the national Australian expense move framework works with four components of assessment individual annual duty, charges required on merchandise and enterprises, moves like money installments and superannuation. Though on the state level we can see that the duty move framework is increasingly limited and contains property and circuitous expenses. The assessment move framework has its impact on the two organizations and people dwelling in Australia. There are various charges present in Australia by and by at the national, state and neighborhood levels of the administration. The expense move arrangement of Australia is available at all degrees of the administration and the whole structure of the assessment framework is excessively mind boggling and confounded at conveying various targets. There are many various approach questions that Australian expense move framework is attempting to accomplish in the years to come so as to improve their social and monetary results. A portion of the approach objects are as per the following: Presenting changes in close to home lives, organizations and trade with the assistance of advance innovation like interchanges and hardware. Urban luxury and reasonable houses for individuals. Better understanding between the biological systems and people both locally and all inclusive. Decrease in certain expense bases and increment in the expense of wellbeing and reliance. Numerous Policy Tax and Transfer System of Australia By and large Australians decisions are extremely free who likes to settle on decisions about putting resources into instruction, how much cash to be spend on what products and ventures and how much cash should be spared and to be contributed. Presently the Australian expense move framework would affect these decisions through numerous channels. In the event that we see the Federal arrangement of government, at that point we can see that moves and expenses are overseen by a few degrees of government. All the State and nearby government frameworks are between connected and can be considered as one expense move framework with various segments. People cooperate with the assessment move frameworks which live with the State and nearby government. For people it is as yet sensible yet for organization and people working together it is somewhat troublesome. Since an organization is working together over a few States and they will in general interface with different state charge frameworks and even numerous neighborhood governments also the Australian Government framework. This shows there is so much clash and disarray between the State, Local and Central Government in regards to the duty move framework All the assessment laws are interlinked thus when an organization is managing in exchanges with a few States then numerous multiple times there is a contention between the laws. In such cases Court needs to mediate and understand the case. (Treasurygovau, 2016) The job of Australian Government is a lot more prominent than the State and neighborhood government. Numerous multiple times they cover each other since expenses and moves took care of by them vary. Yet, in the event that one can see the expense and move laws in Canada, both the Federal Government and States manages same or comparable charges and moves. In any case, tragically same isn't followed in Australia, because of which such huge numbers of entanglements and disarrays have been created.(Anueduau, 2016) Presently we will know how the Australian government handles charges. Australian Government manages four components of the duty move framework which are Superannuation, individual personal expense, burdens on products and enterprises and moves. These duties are for the most part managed by people and they communicate with organization charge too. Be that as it may, when it goes ahead the State side then people for the most part manages progressively confined exchange framework and a wide scope of roundabout and property charges. In the event that an individual is working in an organization, at that point organization will likewise deduct charge if the pay is more than as far as possible. The vast majority of the expense which is gathered by the administration is paid by organizations. Organizations are likewise at risk to make good on incidental advantage duty and superannuation ensure installments for their representatives. Aside from this organization additionally manages the asses sment move framework for their own correct like installment of GST charge, finance charge, and different expenses which are exacted on the organization. Consequently by this it very well may be presumed that organizations which are working in more than one State needs to manage numerous Australian and State government charge systems.(Victoriaacnz, 2016) Current Australian Tax framework is Overburdened As we have found in the above section the present duty framework is confused and over-troubled. Duties and moves followed by both the Federal Government are not same or comparable. The huge issue lies is with the Central Government, such a significant number of sorts of duties are included that it gets hard for the organization to do any business over Australia.(Aifsgovau, 2016) If any outside organization needs to do any business in Australia then it would get mistook for the duty framework followed. Rather than working together in Australia they would prefer to begin another business in whatever other nation where charge framework is greatly improved set. Australias charge level is moderately lower than the greater part of the OECD nations. The duty level is beneath than the OECD normal and even underneath than the nations like Canada and New Zealand. Indeed, even on account of move framework, Australia has a blended exchange arrangement of private and open help for retirement. Asi de from this it likewise has the arrangement of both willful and obligatory superannuation which are commonly supported by representatives, managers and furthermore by the people who are self-employed.(Bettertaxgovau, 2016) In the event that we see the retirement pay procedure of Australia, at that point it is additionally a muddled and a long procedure. It has a three column retirement pay framework where the main column is a tried age benefits which is treated as an all inclusive least pay wellbeing net. While the subsequent column incorporates mandatory contributory plan which is just founded on representative income. Also, finally the third column incorporates charge advantaged intentional sparing which is commonly inferred through superannuation funds.(Sagovau, 2016) Eventual fate of Australian Tax System to Overcome the Current Tax Systems Shortcomings As we have seen over that the present assessment and move framework is exceptionally unpredictable and muddled, it has gotten important to change the whole duty and move arrangement of Australia. To have a perfect duty framework it needs to have a few highlights which are talked about below:(Taxreview.treasury.gov.au, 2016) Charges ought to be comprehensively based which ought to have hardly any concessions and exclusions: Multifaceted nature for the most part jeopardizes both consistence and authoritative expenses. Concessions likewise support lease looking for which ought to be campaigned for any further cut outs from the base made by the legislature. On the off chance that the base itself is tight, at that point it would make little and vigorously influenced constituencies.(Conversation, 2016) Thin bases additionally imply that the assessment rates are higher than anticipated thus effectiveness costs increment more than proportionately with the rate. However, on the off chance that expansive base is there, at that point it unquestionably limit these expenses. Unpredictability even varieties multifaceted nature since it will in general maintain a strategic distance from circumstances brief enemy of evasion arrangements. Direct duties ought to be utilized which is highly favored than the backhanded duty framework. The explanation for it is that these circuitous duties contorts asset allotment and even damages productivity.(Pc.gov.au, 2016) Indeed, even the focal point of direct assessments would be on the stable components of creation. While circuitous assessments center was mostly around the portable factors that is the explanation such huge numbers of complexities and confusions were there. Stable elements of creation resemble work salary burdened intensely, monetary rents from land and even capital salaries burdened vigorously. At present there is desperate requirement for the Australian government to assume responsibility for the expense and move framework and defend it in such a way, that it is empowered to conquer all the current deficiencies. A portion of the elements to be mulled over by the Australian government are as per the following:- (Taxreview.treasury.gov.au, 2016) There are excesses of charges at present in Australia that is simply overburdening the framework. The duty move framework is starting to self-destruct because of this overburdening of different approach objectives. Expenses ought to be limited to four bases-individual salary, private utilization, business pay and monetary rents got from land other characteristic assets. (Alrc.gov.au, 2016) Consideration is to be paid to the drawn out development of Australia that decides the expectations for everyday comforts of its residents. Progressively down to earth and impartial expenses are to be presented, better work impetuses to be presented and presentation of use charge at business level. Individual annual assessment being the biggest wellspring of salary for the nation it is to be made increasingly streamlined, straightforward and fair in nature. All recompenses, move installments and annuities are to be made free of duties. The exchange arrangement of Australia is to be work strong, centered around easing of neediness, reasonable and sufficient, and economical in nature. There ought to be acceptable coordination between the duty and move frameworks of Australia. Land charge is to be wide based to make it proficient. Lease based expenses are all the more reassuring for the private s

Pauls college in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is the first setting offers the reader their Pauls first impression. Paul views educa tion and authority concepts as repulsive which implies to the reader that Paul is a common liar who regularly shows no regret for his actions. But this isn't the primary awareness of this phase, as an alternative, this phase attempts to draw recognition away from what Paul has carried out and in the direction of the atmosphere of hostility that surrounds him at the same time as being under evaluation by the college. The instructors scrutinize and estrange him without kindness with his English educator standing out including the general harsh mentality towards Paul amid this assessment in which Paul calls a rite of passage contributes to his aversion from school as well as the Authority figures. According to Paul, his living situations in his dads house are unbearable against his believes that he is entitled to a luxurious life. This conflict makes Paul feels that he merits to have and live in a money-filled lavish lifestyle. His father who is a single and an employee in a manufacturing facility feels that his neighbor is a perfect model for his son to follow. At the same time as Pauls dad continuously pressures Paul by constantly regarding this neighbor. The college academics misunderstand Pauls behavior and dismiss him as disrespectful and a nuisance. Unlike the academics, the Carnegie hall people have not given up on Paul being optimi stic of a future for him in the theater enterprise. Its due to this treatment that Paul feels that he has an existence that is unsuited for him and longs to live more indulgently, but he is, however, content by watching others carry on with this apparently sumptuous way of life. He loves to envision what it resembles to carry on with the rich and exquisite way of life of being in the expressive arts. When he goes to New York City the focal point of the exquisite way of life that he needed, he discovers this extravagant way of life can just give him joy for inasmuch as soon as Paul finds a similar disappointment that was available in his life in Pittsburgh. Paul chooses to submit suicide. This inward clash Paul experiences is essential because of his identityAnother viewpoint that adds to the primary topic is the portrayal of Paul. One of the most obvious qualities of Paul is his fixation on the expressive arts, for example, music canvases and the theater. The author discusses the d elight Paul has for working at Carnegie Hall. He has built up the doubtful thought that the craftsmanship world is a standard fantasyland and all through various events gets himself lost inside the visual sketches and hints of music. Paul is additionally fixated on cash. He aches to be rich and trusts that incredible riches is his fate. Paul has the disclosure that cash was everything and the divider that remained between all he hated and all he needed. One last characteristic that adds to the fundamental subject is his egotistical sense of self, which is, for the most part, found from the third individual perspective that is available all through this short story (Dorais, Michel, Simon, 13)..According to the author, Paul seems like a typical delinquent juvenile whose main motivations in life is mocking and annoying others in order to get the attention that he desires. His reasons to make mockery might not be to seek attention but to make those he mock know that he is different fro m them. The author portrays Paul as a captive in a world that he loathes due to its dullness, which is characterized by the Cordelier Street that lives the Pittsburgs middle-class citizens and their dull and miserable simple lives. The author uses an omniscient storyteller who appears to know everything as observed when he talks about the sadness the instructors felt. The author reveals Paul as a sadist who is not comfortable or appreciative of the life he lives. His sadistic nature as portrayed by the author gives the reader a negative attitude about Paul. The storyteller narrating the story seems to know a lot about p[aul but withholds in the story. A prime case of this is when Paul meets that Yale understudy where the reader is given an exceptionally unclear portrayal on what he and the Yale understudy do after their little supper date. By restricting this omniscient Point-of-view to take a gander at Paul, the storyteller splendidly represents Pauls self-assimilated sense of self. Paul is so consumed into his covetousness and human expressions that he hates anything and any individual who isnt carrying on with a way of life loaded with the expressive arts and cash This is just strengthened by the...

Network Security Advanced Trust Authorization Access...

Network Security Advanced Trust Authorization Access Control Method Abstract To move around the network securely and safely for organizations is very important. With the increase of this activity new security challenges came in existence. There are many malicious requesters who try to use organization’s web services by sending fake requests. So there is need to identify which request is sent by genuine requester and malicious requester. To avoid requests from fake requesters there is requirement of access control model that can store data about the person who made request for web service at the time of access request and utilize this data effectively in future while making access control decisions. This†¦show more content†¦Definition of Model An Access control model is the technique by which we can restrict the unknown user from accessing some web services. This model works on specified set of rules. To evade the malicious user request, System has to cross the border of security to make some identification about requester. After making identification, Access control model can grant access or restrict the unauthorized user from accessing web services. Some of the Previous Access control models are as following: Role Based Access Control (RBAC) is a standout amongst the most generally utilized Web Service access control methods. In this type of access control technique, roles are allocated to the specific users to access the web services(Nguyen, Zhao Yang 2010). Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) models make utilization of characteristics claimed by the customers, the suppliers, and some different credits identified with the network. Decisions about access or deny are simply based on these attributes (Yuan Tong 2005). Trust-Based Access Control (TBAC) frameworks are not the same as the past access control plans following the customer trust level is rapidly figured in view of some factual investigation of practices, activities and past access history. Subsequently, bad behaviour and violation of rules specified by service provider lead to a diminishing of the trust level, while great conduct prompts an

Yojimbo the Japanese amidst Western World and Archetypes Essay Example

Yojimbo: the Japanese amidst Western World and Archetypes Essay Yojimbo is a 1961 Japanese sword-fight film by Akira Kurosawa, featuring Toshiro Mifune as the nameless protagonist. The plot revolves around a ronin (wandering or master less samurai) who gets into a small town. He finds out that the place is being ruled by two gambling warlords, Seibei and Usitora, and he sees this as an opportunity to make some money. First, he hires himself as a yojimbo or bodyguard to both crime lords, and then proceeds to making the two crime gangs face off in a series of bloody skirmishes. He employed manipulative tricks in order to let the two gangs kill each other to annihilation. In the end, he engages in a very bloody battle between the two crimes syndicates, leaving the town in peace as the two gangs are finally depleted. He, in turn, acquires a good deal of money from his conspiracies. This paper will analyze how the film Yojimbo is heavily influenced by Western standards, and how the film portrays a rather distorted view of the Japanese culture and histo ry, with a leaning towards the Western bias and audience. The film’s formal aspectsSet/CostumeKurosawa made a good job in making his set rather realistic and dramatic. The samurai costumes employed are believable and credible and the cast are not overly costumed. Kurosawa depicted a small, dusty Japanese village, and by historical standards, it is accurate and not romanticized.LightingKurosawa employed many Western lighting techniques, such as the occasional emphasis on movement and details. Generally speaking, the film is lighted by natural, bright light that gives it a rather cool ambience. Night scenes, on the other hand, are not given too much lighting in order to accurately depict the Japanese era during that time.SpaceOne rather obvious aspect that makes the film Western-influenced is its use of the wide-lens shots, emphasizing the diminutive, solitary, but purposely heroic nature of the protagonist. This is a direct salutation to the Western man-with-no-name concept, in which a sole wandering character is depicted as the ‘only heroic soul’ in a desolated or corrupted place that he/she will ‘clean up’ by him/herself (Of course, the main character is often depicted as a man, as in Dashielle Hammett’s Red Harvest and Kurosawa’s Sanjuro).Another noticeable camera effect that was employed was the utilization of slow motion and fast-forward effects. For instance, there was a scene where the protagonist is looking at a tree while being asked for his name. The shot was slow-motioned in order to emphasize the calmness of the mulberry tree. From then on, some of his graceful killing moves are also slow-motioned in order to achieve this same effect and to highlight the point that he is, in fact, the calm and solitary mulberry tree that was shot in earlier sequences.   Creative sequences were also employed, as in the scene wherein the character throws a knife to pin a fluttering leaf to the ground. This seemingly nons ense shot (as it has no direct relation to the plot) abounds throughout the film and its only purpose is to highlight the character of the protagonist in symbolic terms.Another salutation was made to the cowboy-themed (Wild Wild West) films, which gives us a hint how the said concept was transplanted in the Japanese context. The sequence wherein the protagonist faces a group of crime goons in a face-off shot (there is a blank space between the protagonist and his enemies) is very reminiscent of the Marlboro films in the West. The spinning dusts and the sound of the wind complete the scene, making a dramatic effect. Moreover, the group of bandits was also depicted as bloodthirsty, dirty and badly-dressed hoodlums, while the protagonist was depicted as the tough-faced, cool Marlboro guy with the heartless look. This archetypal fight scene is very Western-inspired.Although it was not that prominent all throughout the film, Yojimbo exhibits certain special elements of American film noir . The taverns were the crime lords dwell are depicted as dark and decadent in ambience. Nonetheless, the setting stills appear to be more Japanese than American underground.ActingMifune has done a great job in depicting his cool character, his complex characterization ranging from a melancholic solitary man to a raging but intuitive killing machine. However, Kurosawa appears to have taken his characters into boxed Western roles. For instance, the crime lords and goons in the film appear to be direct rip-offs from the gambling lords in Hammett’s The Glass Key, leaving no room for Japanese characterization. There is also a scene wherein the protagonist was tortured. The dramatic scene is almost taken similarly—shot-by-shot—also in the said Hammet film. The acting of the cast in the film is, therefore, patterned. In this case, Kurosawa had certain shortcoming in credibility and cultural accuracy. The fight scenes in the film are numerous and oftentimes gory. In this case, Kurosawa again employed Western techniques in portraying the gory deaths of the protagonist’s enemies. Moreover, the concept of a protagonist facing an unbelievably large number of enemies without acquiring even a scratch is also a Wild Wild Wild West thing. The goons are also very weak and vulnerable, and most of the time their acting is apparently second-rate, almost as if they are pushing themselves to the blade of the protagonist’s sword. Of course, this is again to highlight the strength and epic heroism of the main character, but in this aspect, the fight scene appears mechanical and very unbelievable.Kurosawa and his Western influenceI have been mentioning for quite some time how the film is apparently inspired by many Western concepts, elements and filmmaking techniques. The possibility of Kurozawa copying certain scenes and influence from Western films such as Hammett’s The Glass Key and Red Harvest was also mentioned.I believe that there is noth ing wrong with the incorporation of these Western techniques into a Japanese setting, as doing so is like denying the progress of technology. However, one consequence that Kurosawa committed in doing so is that he neglected other factors of Japanese culture (and even his own creative identity) in favor of the Western techniques. In order to gain a Western audience or, more likely, to gain Western acceptance, he transplanted certain Western archetypes and elements into a Japanese context, thereby creating a ‘Western film in a Japanese setting’ ,made by a Japanese (Richie 2005 p.132). This claim is, of course, not to condemn Kurosawa’s creativity and contribution to the international film industry but rather to highlight how Western standards are becoming ‘The Standard’. This kind of point of view (viewing Western standards as the prime and superior standard) is detrimental to other films, as it forces the films from other countries to conform to the A merican standards and put their own cultural and creative identity in an inferior position.Hence, although the film Yojimbo claims to depict the dark side of life in Japan during the claimed era, it fails in terms of credibility, primarily because the characters and even the situations it claimed to portray as ripped-off from the Western context, and the Japanese setting is the one that was distorted and situated. (This is of course not to say the crime lords and goons are not present in the said Japanese era. The presence of these kinds of people is historically true, and so is to other films from other countries that feature these kinds of social situations). However, the point is not the idea of crime but the depiction of characters and even the archetypal Japanese people themselves.Yojimbo as a portrait of cultural and social deteriorationIt is obvious that Kurosawa wished to depict a picture of the Japan during that time, especially as he included many scenes that tell us how t he Japanese society during that time is on the verge of a moral collapse and how the consciousness and culture of the people are being molded and transformed by the rise of capitalism. For instance, there is a scene wherein a farmer’s son decided to go to the city to look for fortune. The son said that a short exciting life rather than a long life eating rice-gruel†, justifying his act. The scene gives us a picture of how the young Japanese during that time are longing for ‘excitement’ and ‘fun’, two things that are not present in the strict Japanese culture where one eats rice-gruel everyday. This kind of thinking is an influence of the individualistic (and often ‘decadent’) point of view, as traditionalists put it. The need for cheap and fast thrills, in contrast to the traditional and strict Japanese was also put side by side in the same scene wherein the farmer replies to his son: everyone is after easy money these days. The fil m highlighted this contradiction, as even the main theme of the film revolves around this contradiction. The presence of bandits and crime lords in the Japanese culture is not a product of an innate human desire to kill or steal, but a product of the human desire to enlarge his/her property. This fact was highlighted by the film, as it portrayed the crime lords as greedy individuals who are in constant strife and chaos in order to stabilize their power in the society. The film resolves this contradiction in the end, as the protagonist faces the son and tells him that a long life eating rice-gruel is the best (da Silva 2004). This implies that the better life is the peaceful, the stable and, to put it further, the traditional. This tells us how the film rejects the adventurist and chaotic lifestyle that capitalism endows for those who have the financial power. It also tells how the money gives us the illusion that ‘the grass is greener on the other side of the fence’, as it means the rejection of one’s cultural identity and even one’s own identity in the process. The symbol of ‘rice-gruel’ brings in the symbol of the traditional agricultural lifestyle of the Japanese, of how they are directly connected to land and rejecting it will be like rejecting one’s inherent culture and identity (Richie 2006 p.75). In the film, people such as the farmer’s son chose to live this lifestyle in exchange of the illusionist promise of wealth and adventure in the city. The critique may appear plausible until we see how the film commits the same crimes that it preaches as bad. It is because the film itself is a foreign cultural product. Although the film may be enlightening and true, the archetype and elements that it employed is not necessarily reflective. It is leaned towards a foreign bias, and in this sense, it would be a complete destruction of its credibility. The film utilized these elements in order to gain acceptance in the Western film-making circle. One may question why a film needs to be accepted by Western standards. Directly speaking, the primary reason is to gain profit, which is of course in turn the primary reason of mainstream filmmaking. Hence, the film is also geared towards profit, and it rejected the use of authentic Japanese elements in order to gain these profits (not necessarily in the form of money). The film, therefore, is like the farmer’s son who rejected rice-gruel in exchange of money and adventure that he can gain in the city.ConclusionIn formal terms, the film is good and is acceptable. The different filmmaking elements are given creative attention, and the film was generally executed finely. However, one apparent characteristic of the film is that it utilized (and even ripped-off) certain elements, characters and concepts from Western films. Hence, it highlights how the film is heavily influenced by Western filmmaking canons and techniques. The content of the film is also commendable, as it served as a critique of the Japanese cultural deterioration during the said era, and this deterioration is indeed a universal phenomenon that transcends the eras and even to other countries. However, the film also committed this error as the film in itself is a product of Western influence, and it is apparently geared towards Western acceptance and profit. Hence, although the concept is commendable, the film in itself cannot be considerable credible picture of the Japanese society.Referencesda Silva, Joaquà n. buy custom Western Civilization essay

buy custom Western Civilization essay The ancient Babylon civilization was a great step for mankind to come together in the fertile land of the gulf, traversing through the Valley of Euphrates River also covering the land of the present day Iraq and Iran. The fertile land and water inspired settlement for agriculture that supported other trade and commerce activities that led to the creation of ancient city of Babylon. The race of the Turanians are responsible for the development and progress that come to be known Babylon, while the Mediterranean regions that entails the Black sea and the Caspian seas served as cradle home land for the Semites and Aryans, further South existed the Hamite race civilization region of Egypt (Demirdjian 2). The valley of Euphrates provided an ideal environment for human civilization. The ancient people were farmers and kept cattle and therefore there was a need for plenty of grass and fertile land for agriculture besides a sustainable water supply point. The Euphrates Rivers source was located in the vast mountains of Armenia whose highest peak is Mount Ararat whereby the rivers tributaries arose and trickled down. During summer, the rover flooded down from the mountains with tones of fertile volcanic soil that was deposited in the Valley of Euphrates. People built ditches and canals that were used to irrigate the land such that food production was done all year round (Demirdjian 3). Personal, I would have built a series of dykes and dams that would hold back the flooding water for production of hydro power besides providing water for irrigation. The entire Gulf of Persia would have become an exporting zone for tropical fruits and food as well as other commercial crops. Since Babylon was a merchant centre, I would have increased the opulence of trade and commerce by leasing out land to captured tribes if the local Babylonians were satisfied with the production since there was enough fertile land that would have been used to colonize the hot Arabian land that was always in need of food and clean water. The ancient Babylon sprang from the Sumerian civilization that has existed for thousands of years. Wheat an other cereals were cultivated in ancient Sumerian kingdom before 4500 B.C. Agricultural selection of the best hybrids of grass like cereals enhanced the development of food security. Further, high production of cereals enhanced the development of Mesopotamia that became Babylon once it was consolidated by King Sargon the great (Demirdjian 3). The First known men who organized the kingdom into a viable government was Nimrod the Great who is famed for constructing the great tower of Babel and King Sargon who used his power to unite the Sumerian under the Akkaddian kingdom with one language. Language acted as a cementing factor that allowed the kingdom to concentrate in agricultural, commerce and trade ways of life and a few time battles to remain relevant in the old savage world. Equally, existence of city states across Mesopotamia enhanced the development of Babylon. Each of the city states was remained self-sufficient and sustained by its produce and military affairs. The river provided a good transportation option for farmers and city states. Roads and inlets were built by the city states to spur development and movement of tradable gods and produce. Therefore when King Sargon consolidated the Kingdom, he only created unified political criteria that allowed the former Mesopotamia Sumerians to identify themselves as one nation though the leadership of city states remained irrelevant after the unification. Radically, in order to construct a lasting kingdom or empire there is a need for democratic space while the government takes a keen eye in building a strong defense an offense force. Therefore, King Sargon would have retained the autonomy of city states within Mesopotamia but his rule to use one language was a commendable action that allowed the city state to integrate as one huge Babylon kingdom. Eventually, Sumeria was absorbed into Babylon i n 2340 B.C., the inclusion of the Sumerian mathematics, writing methods and record keeping options become a backbone for development whereby King Hammurabi used the writing technique to draft laws (Texas AM University 3-4). The drafter and written law that come to be known as the codee of Hammurabi is among the ancient coded laws that organized the society politically, socially, and economically accountable for all its deeds. In the code of Hammurabi, there are specific rules and regulations that have to be changed in order to make out democracy in Babylon. For instance false evidence bearing was a discouraged vice in the law. Therefore, a judge was also liable if a witness bore false evidence that resulted in conviction or death of another. However, the law stood as bureaucratic code of conduct that disallowed the judge from altering judgment after giving a verdict. Instead, the law should have allowed people to witness cases, and a jury be appointed to examine the evidence every time there was a need before a verdict was reached. Therefore, personal I would have allowed space for an appeal in which even the Judge could consider the case from all angles. Equally, the code remained oppressive to the ignorant who received goods and stolen produce without knowledge of the source of the goods; If a man has stolen goods from a temple, or house, he shall be put to death; and he that has received the stolen pro perty from him shall be put to death (Hammurabi 6). The code of Hammurabi remained gender sensitive to the extent that women were treated as less equals to men. For example, the law allowed the state to prosecute and drown an adulterous woman while nothing happened to the man responsible. The most predominant culture in the code of Hammurabi is the revenge whereby if a man hit another mans wife and as a consequence, the aggressor mans daughter was killed to avenge (Hammurabi 209-210). However, the code maintained a social outlook than todays laws by allowing a woman to receive enough portions for her up keeping after a divorce (Hammurabi 142). In conclusion, the kingdom of Babylon was organized politically through laws and guidelines that streamline family life, society, trade, and commerce such that expansion of trade and facilitating of democratic justice were the only lacking virtues of the ancient kingdom. The Problem of Evil Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Problem of Evil - Essay Example However, this world is filled with things beyond evil and people do feel pain and suffering, which contradicts the claims of orthodox theist that God is perfectly good. This conflict is called problem of evil. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then is He impotent. Is He able, but not willing? Then is He malevolent. Is He both able and willing? Whence then is evil? (Hume) In an attempt to unravel the complexities of this predicament, few queries must be made. Evil goes beyond what we do not want other people to do to us. According to Hick, there are two classifications of evil. First, the moral evil which includes those acts an individual or group may be responsible of such as the seven deadly sins and more. Second type is the natural evil. Pain and suffering brought by natural calamities which people has no control over. Although the line which separates the two is still blurry, since some natural evil are consequences of human actions or lack of action. Nevertheless, we cannot deny the fact that there are things beyond our control ----- accidents and natural disasters. Evil is often associated with suffering which highlights an individual’s sense of pain or loss that focuses on a particular kind of evil: one which is considered as a consequence of an act rather than a more abstract concept. Thus arise another confusion which is the existence of hell ----- a place where God put those who have failed Him to rot and suffer; because this very notion contradicts the idea of a loving God. Augustinian theodicy argues that God is wholly good, thus He’s not responsible for the existence of evil in the world. It claims that evil is not the opposite; rather it is the absence of good. According to this theodicy, evil happens as a result of people’s misuse of their free will, therefore exonerating God and putting the blame of all evil and suffering to people who abuse their free will. This particular claim of Augustinian theodicy makes the subject more baffling, for it puts all the blame to the ‘finitely perfect’ being, that is us humans, who fails to choose perfection, hence shifting the blame back to the Creator. Moreover, the term ‘privation’ is inadequate justification for the apparent effects of evil in its truest sense. Then comes the knowledge of evolution ---- a process by which humans, being the most complex creatures, learn to adapt and grow in accordance with its environment. This is the claim of Irenaean theodicy which is restated by John Hick on his Soul-making theodicy. Hick defines soul-making as the existence of evil and suffering which allows flawed creatures to outgrow their imperfections and develop to a more perfect state. It emphasizes on the development by practicing free will, people are able to overcome temptations and suffering hence bringing them closer to perfection and to God. Unlike that of the Augustinians which give much stress on the negativity of the existence of evil, Irenaean theodicy puts God in an epistemic distance from us. It explains that this distance is meant for us to learn to love God on our own free-will by prevailing over all the difficulties He places on our path as we journey through life. Evil is created by God to hone the inner values we have, for some ideals need to go through some difficulties to develop like that of courage and forgiveness amidst suffering. This theodicy believes that individuals evolve towards a higher state by

Fast food Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Fast food - Essay Example The contemporary world has seen the emergence of a new consumption behavior where the major aspects include up scaling of lifestyle norms, competition for acquiring goods, and disconnect between the consumer desires and incomes. The modern mode of consumption can be referred to as consumer culture where income and wealth determine what people eat. This is because of â€Å"an up-scaling of lifestyle norms, the pervasiveness of conspicuous, status goods and of competition for acquiring them; and the growing disconnect between consumer desires and incomes† (Schor 412). The major reason behind the fast food problem in the U.S is social comparison or competitive consumption. This implies that individuals strain to consume according to the norms of a specific social group with which they identify. In particular, the lifestyles adopted by the rich and the upper middle class individuals have become a prominent point of reference all through the income distribution. From an economic pe rspective, American neighborhoods are homogenous groupings as opposed to the past when individuals used to compare themselves with other individuals of similar income. Such practices reduced the gap between aspirations and means. The opposite of this is usually known as the upscale emulation, which is prevalent in the modern American society. The problems resulting from such lifestyles are magnified further for the low-income households because their income sources are becoming inadequate and erratic. This is because of employment instability and limitations on welfare payments. Research suggests that this can be resolved through psychological independence. However, this might not be the solution since individuals changed due to structural changes that include decline in social connection, growing impact of social media, and intensification of inequality. Therefore, the solution lays both on practical and psychological dimensions. This

Discuss the development of Eddie Carbones character Essay Example for Free

Discuss the development of Eddie Carbones character Essay ‘’A View From The Bridge’’ is a play written by Arthur Miller in the mid-1950’s. Set during the Great Depression in around 1940, the play sees main character Eddie Carbone lead a stable life with his wife and niece in a tightly-woven community in Brooklyn, New York. Due to his sincerity, he is respected by the local community and he has his destiny plotted out for him. However, as the tragic play unfolds, Eddie makes a series of mistakes which affect his relationship with others and ultimately result in a catastrophe. Eddie Carbone is a traditional Italian-American, who earns his living as a longshoreman. He leads an ordinary life with his wife (Beatrice) and his niece (Catherine). Beatrice loves Eddie, this is shown when Beatrice says ‘’You’re an angel! God’ll bless you.’’. The word ‘’angel’’ suggests that Beatrice loves Eddie as she is comparing him to an angel. Furthermore, this shows the audience that Beatrice is a traditional woman as she is praising (therefore supporting) her husband. In the era they lived in, men and women were expected to follow the traditional values of their communities. Men were authoritative in the house and usually the breadwinners whilst women were housewives; women were expected to support and obey their husbands. Another member of Eddie’s family includes his niece, Catherine; whom Eddie is protective over. This is shown when Eddie says to Catherine ‘’Listen, you been givin’ me the willies the way you walk down the street’’. The word ‘’willies’’ suggests that Eddie feels uncomfortable with the way Catherine walks down the street. He feels this way because he has a close relationship with Catherine who looks up to him as a father-like figure. An important aspect of Eddie’s character that is presented to the audience is his attitude towards snitching. He feels strongly against snitching, this is shown when he insults snitchers by calling them ‘’stool pigeons’’, using this word suggests that Eddie thinks lowly of people committing such acts. Furthermore, Eddie warns Catherine of snitches when he asks Beatrice to tell Catherine the story of Vinny Bolzano (a teenager who snitched on his uncle to the Immigration Bureau). When Rodolfo and Marco arrive; troubles start to brew up and Eddie’s behaviour changes significantly. Eddie becomes more aggravated, this is shown when in the stage directions it says ‘’He is sizing up Rodolfo’’. This shows that Eddie is trying to taunt Rodolfo by comparing their heights (height is a symbol of power). In addition, when Eddie says to Beatrice ‘’he sings’’ (referring to Rodolfo), Eddie is suggesting that it’s not normal for a man to sing, he is attempting to suggest Rodolfo is gay. Eddie is in a way trying to put him down because he is jealous of Rodolfo’s relationship with Catherine. Another example of his sudden metamorphosis is that he has become more obsessed with Catherine. For instance, when Catherine and Rodolfo return from the Brooklyn Paramount, Eddie says to Catherine ‘’I don’t see you no more’’. This quote suggests that Eddie is obsessed with Catherine because he claims that he doesn’t see Catherine. Beatrice’s relationship with Eddie also deteriorates. This is shown to the audience when Beatrice says ‘’Everything ain’t great with me. When am I gonna be a wife again, Eddie?’’. This quote shows that the physical side of their marriage is falling apart because Beatrice is feeling ignored (due to Eddie’s obsession with Catherine). Initially, Eddie considers Marco to be a real man. This is shown when he says ‘’Marco goes around like a man; nobody kids Marco.’’. However, as the play gradually progresses; so does Eddie’s relationship with Marco. For example, in the scene with Marco and the chair, in the stage directions it says ‘’Marco is face to face with Eddie, a strained tension gripping his eyes and jawthe chair raised like a weapon over Eddie’s headEddie’s grin vanishes as he absorbs his look’’. The word ‘’vanishes’’ suggests that the situation is threatening, as the tension is so large that Eddie’s grin vanishes. This event symbolises that the relationship between Marco and Eddie has broken, more importantly it symbolises the start of Eddie’s downfall. By the end of the play, Eddie has changed drastically; he has become a completely different man. He has become a snitch even though he despised snitching at the start of the play. His close relationship with Catherine has ended as Catherine does not look up to Eddie as a father-like figure anymore; in fact she loathes Eddie, this is proven when Catherine says ‘’He’s a rat! He belongs in the sewer!’’. Also, Eddie’s relationship with Marco has deteriorated to such an extent that Marco accuses him of murder and spits in Eddie’s face. We know this because Marco says ‘’He killed my children’’! When Marco spits in Eddie’s face the community become aware of Eddie snitching and they are disgusted. His friend Louis ignores Eddie, this is shown in the stage directions which says ‘’Louis barely turns’’. Therefore Eddie’s main concern now is to get his reputation back, this is proven when Eddie says ‘’I want my name’’. He wants his reputation back because he has been humiliated when Marco spat in his face. In the end, Eddie refuses to listen to Rodolfo’s pleas and demands an apology from Marco. When Marco refuses Eddie takes out a knife but he gets injured himself and dies in the arms of Beatrice. From a highly-respected member of the community, Eddie manages to relegate himself to a disgraced member. Even his most loyal friends ignore him; all because of one error. Eddie is a hero in a Greek Tragedy, he made an error of judgement and he has to suffer immensely for it. Ultimately, he loses the love and respect of his niece Catherine; which is what he was fighting for.

My Career Essay -- Personal Narrative Careers Essays

My Career I do not know that anyone chooses a career in life. It seems that fate or certain outside forces influences the decisions you make in life. These forces change your life from one career to the next until you end up in your retirement years looking back on your life thinking of the â€Å"what ifs." I guess I have to open the topic of my paper â€Å"My Career† with me in my teens because my life has turned direction several times since then. Originally I had my heart set on a football career. I was fairly good at it playing both offensive and defensive positions. Unfortunately the outside sources that changed my budding career involved a tractor on my Uncle’s farm one summer in my junior year. The tractor won and I lost some movement in my knee for about three years. Needless to say my career was over. A few years later I entered college and found a desire to become an oceanographer. I have always lived near the water and interested in the ocean, the life under it, and the secrets it holds. If I remember correctly the outside force that ended this career was my own failure in following some strict study habits. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute informed me that they accepted only 3.0 grade point average and above. Another outside force at this time was t he draft and the Viet Nam War. I ended up entering the Navy and was sure that I had found the career of my lifetime. I had finally found a career where I excelled. I was happy, enjoyed the professionalism, the freedom and authority that I possessed. This new career fit well with my character and what I wanted to do with my life. I trained people, helped them, watched them succeed and grow. What more could I ask for, the military had a certain form of excitement not shared by any other profession in the world. The places I traveled if duplicated would take a lifetime of trying, the experience, the honor of serving my country, all with an adequate wage scale. The outside forces that ended this career path in the Navy would fill a volume. My Career Essay -- Personal Narrative Careers Essays My Career I do not know that anyone chooses a career in life. To keep this long story in perspective and within the confines of this assignment, it is easier to conclude that the Navy became a job and not an adventure. Health Care Reform Project Essay

One solution to managed care in health care is the keeping the cost of the health care down. According to â€Å"Health Care Cost Control: Getting on the Right Track† (2002), â€Å"A real solution will, of necessity, involve pain for all players in health care: employers, government, providers, insurers, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, and consumers.† To regain control over the heath care crisis the purchasers and the consumers need to come together and decide what the best resolution would be best for them. They will also need to determine what it is that they are willing to sacrifice in order to reduce the high rate of the health care cost. If this doesn’t work the only other alternative would be for the government to step in and decide what needs to mandated, nobody wants this to happen. Another solution to managed care in health care is access to affordable health care. According to â€Å"Health Care in Chaos: Will We Ever See Real Managed Careâ€Å" †Lack of insurance coverage causes people not only to avoid preventive care, but to delay seeking illness care until later into the episode of illness.† The underinsured or uninsured will wait until they absolutely have to or need to be seen and end up going to the Emergency room costing themselves and other a lot more money out of pocket. If managed care was more affordable then there would be a lot less people needing insurance along with better health for those individuals. There are an increased number of uninsured people in the United States to roughly around 45.6 million people (Health Care in Chaos: Will We Ever See Real Managed Care). Quality of care in managed care is another issue that is happening. â€Å"Medicare HMO enrollees with chronic conditions showed worse quality of care.†(Miller, 2015). The quality of care with HMO’s can be considered poorly done. Most people feel that HMO’s do not get the same type of care as  others such as PPO’s this is â€Å"in part because of slow clinical practice change, lack of risk-adjusted capitation rates, and inadequate quality measurement and reporting.† (Miller, 2015). Solutions to these managed care issues all depends on the individual who is insured and wither or not they want to spend a lot of their own money to get the quality of care they are wanting. Most Americans cannot afford insurance either through their employer or through the Affordable Care Act. This is why so many people do not have insurance and have poor health. They are not able to obtain the care they need which then makes health care rise to cover those who seek medical help through the Emergency rooms. More hospitals have to write the debts off which is costing them to lose more money from the patients who are unable to pay for their services. Having managed care is a vicious circle, you either cannot afford to have the health care you and your family needs or you have health care but it is not very good and you still have to pay a lot out of your own pockets just to be seen and have mediocre care. According to â€Å"Managed Care: Get Used To It† (2010) â€Å"The concept embodies many modes of delivering medicine, ranging from the nightmarish bureaucratic encounter to the highly professional clinic.† The worst part of managed care is that providers can decide the service and access because the fee of service treatment is limited to what the providers think is right. â€Å"All managed care plans have a built-in incentive to limit costs, because more treatments do not automatically mean more revenue for health providers.† (Managed Care: Get Used To It† (2010). Censorship in Academia - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 1 Words: 399 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/05/28 Category Society Essay Level High school Topics: Censorship Essay Did you like this example? Historically, institutions of higher-education have been a bastion for free speech and the exploration of ideas. Academia should be a community where ideas can be openly discussed and criticized. However, this element of academia is being threatened. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Censorship in Academia" essay for you Create order In recent years some topics have become off limits because they are considered distressing, offensive, or controversial. Some examples of suppression of free expression were the highly publicized student-protests against right-wing guest speakers at several universities and colleges this past year. Two that come to mind are the protest against Ben Shapiro and Milo Yiannopoulos at the University of California Berkeley, and more locally, the protest against Charles Murray at Middlebury College. While I firmly support the students right to protest the ideas and values of these speakers, the protest of these speakers rights to share their ideas and values is problematic. The censorship and suppression of topics deemed too problematic sets a dangerous precedent that is being adopted by university officials and publishers of academic journals. It must be noted that the ideas that these specific pundits are putting forth seem to be deliberately inflammatory, and are even meant to invite and incite violent behavior against them. The censorship in the academic community has spread from trying to stop political commentators from giving talks to the suppression of research professors employed by these universities. There are several cases of researchers having their work rescinded from journals or even being fired from institutions. Georgia Institute of Technology professor of mathematics, Theodore Hill published a paper titled An Evolutionary Theory for the Variability Hypothesis which proposed there was a greater variability of intelligence (and other traits) among men than women, i.e. there are more men at the low and high extremes for individual traits. The paper was subsequently removed from two journals not because of its scientific merit, but because of the potential political ramifications. And this is not the only instance of politics getting in the way of academic research. David Zaruk a professor at Saint-Louis University was recently fired and claims it was because of his stance on GMOs. And a study on gender dysphoria published in PLOS ONE and written by Lisa Littman, a physician, was pulled in August for further review. Instead of allowing these topics to be presented and debated, they are being stopped in their tracks with the justification that they will be used to discriminate
